About AMMP

The AMMP Centre was established in 2002 with the aim of strengthening research activities in advanced manufacturing and material processes. The team has evolved from a small discussion platform of like-minded researchers to a fully operational research and consultation group in University of Malaya. Throughout the years, AMMP Centre has secured substantial research funding and commercialisation grants from both and international sources. In addition, the Centre has completed a number of consultation work with the industry in developing customised apparatus and solutions for their needs.

Congratulation on the Promotion

Congratulations to Assoc Prof Dr Bushroa and Assoc Prof Dr Farazila for being promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Assoc Prof Dr Bushroa and Assoc Prof Dr Farazila are the board members and researchers at AMMP since 2003 and both of them have been actively involved in teaching, research, industrial training, consultation work and many more. Both of them had also bring in many projects to AMMP and create a lot of collaboration with international and national institutions. All of us at AMMP Centre warmly congratulate them on this promotion.

On the last April, Ir Assoc Prof Dr.Bushroa Abd Razak organized a thanksgiving feast for everyone at AMMP Centre and Zecttron Sdn Bhd. Dr Bushroa also invited her students, collegue and other AMMP associates members to the event as to celebrate her promotion as an associate professor. Dr Bushroa has been with AMMP Centre for more than 10 years and has been serving Department of Mechanical Engineering as an academician since 2004. Dr Bushroa is actively involved in research, management, and consultation work. On behalf of everyone at AMMP Center, we would like to congratulate Assoc Prof Ir Dr. Bushroa Abd Razak and hope that she will continue to succeed in the future.

2 Gold and 2 Silver Medals at ITEX 2017

On the 11th until 13th of May 2017, AMMP has send 4 teams to participate in the 2017 ITEX and as always, we the aimed to create great ideas until we are able to commercialize it. For this year, we have sent 4 specifics projects and expertise.

  1. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor – Heart Public Access to Defibrillation (PAD) Mobile Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  2. Prof. Ir. Dr. Ramesh Singh A/L Kuldip Singh – Rapid Sintering of an Ageing Resistant Zirconia for Fuel Cell and Machinery Applications
  3. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Chou Yong – Calcium Phosphate Engineered from Natural Waste Materials for Biomedical Application
  4. Dr. Mohd Sayuti Ab Karim – Automated Methadone Dispensing Machine with Integrated Secure Data Base System for Individualized Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT)

As a result, AMMP were able to score 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals. In addition, congratulations to Prof. Ir. Dr. Ramesh Singh A/L Kuldip Singh, one of our research member for being selected as the best Innovation (Special Award) during the event. Congratulations to all!

Research Visit to Sheriff University of Technology, Tehran

On the 7th until 9th April 2017, Prof Dr Mohd Hamdi went to Tehran Iran for a research trip at the Sheriff University of Technology. The visit was arranged by Assoc. Prof Javad Akbari from Sherif University of Technology who is also a former member at AMMP Centre until he went back to his country in year 2014. The main purpose of the visit is to discuss about the CNC machine tool technology project and also the Lubrication Control System project. The discussion served as a final touch to the project that they have been doing. The visit was also to strengthen the ties between two parties in order to bring this project to the full commercialization level.

Industrial Visit to Japan

On the 9th until 12th of June 2017, Prof Dr Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor went to an industrial visit to Tokyo Japan to discuss about precision machine design with Prof Tadashi Ariga. The purpose of the visit was also to observe the equipment used and also to visit the Yakin Kanto Kogyo Company. The company main business is Heat treatment and brazing services. The visit was beneficial to AMMP as AMMP is doing a lot of research work in brazing area.

Staff Birthday Celebrations & Farewell to Intern Students

31st March 2017 – AMMP Centre celebrated birthdays of the staffs that were born in months of January until April. The simple celebration is held every 4 months to strengthen the bonds between researchers and staffs of AMMP Centre. In this particular celebration, AMMP also took the chance to bid farewell to four internship students that has been with us since last December 2016. The students from Kolej Vokasional Sungai Buloh were involved primarily in manufacturing machines and administration tasks. AMMP wishes the best for their future endeavors and thanks them for their contributions.

Visit from MARA University of Technology, Shah Alam (UiTM)

15th March 2017 – Seven researchers from UiTM Shah Alam visited AMMP Centre. The main purpose of the visit was to look for possible collaboration in laser welding and welding simulation. In addition, they had the opportunity to visit AMMP’S laboratory and view the machines in the lab. The visitors were also interested to know about the research work related to EDM. We hope that this meeting will create new ideas and opportunities for both institutions in future research projects.

Meeting Research Centres with Rolls Royce Malaysia

16th February 2017 – Innovative Technology Research Cluster (ITRC) of Universiti Malaya had a meeting with Rolls Royce Malaysia at the The Cube, Level 2, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. All the research centers under the Faculty of Engineering gave presentations about their expertise, on-going projects and recent activities they participated to the members of Rolls Royce Malaysia. Contrary to AMPP Centre, Rolls Royce Malaysia is an engineering company that focuses on power & propulsion systems with core markets being aerospace and marine. Nevertheless, future collaborations with Rolls Royce Malaysia would give AMMP Centre the chance to explore new research fields.

Mathematics in Engineering Research Study Group (MERSG)

10th of March 2017 – AMMP Centre organized a research discussion with Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya. The event, Mathematics in Engineering Research Study Group (MERSG), was attended by nearly 20 lecturers and students from Institute of Mathematical Sciences and AMMP Centre. The event was held at The Cube Level 2, Faculty Engineering and the agenda included project presentations by three AMMP students and small group discussions to formulate research issues.

Prof Dr Mohd Hamdi attended the IC4M 2017

24th–26th February 2017, Prof Dr Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor, head of AMMP Centre, attended the 2017 Second International Conference on Mechanical, Manufacturing, Modeling and Mechatronics (IC4M 2017) in Belgium. The conference took place in University Gent, Campus Kortrijk, Belgium. Prof Dr Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor was appointed as the Keynote Speaker.

The conference aims to be a truly international and excellent forum for both young and experienced researchers to publish their work on a global stage. In addition, the conference serves as a platform for accomplished researchers to share their experiences with new researchers.
